The AIHM offers the acupuncture course to those people who are
currently practicing or qualified health professionals. The
course is offered over a 2.5 year period, with study being
undertaken on a part-time basis, usually in the evening once a
week, later in the course more frequent classes maybe scheduled
and clinical training is also required.
As it is a part time course, we are unable to offer it to
overseas students (those applying for a student visa to come to
study in Australia) and it is also not available by distance
education mode. The course intake is in January each year.
The course comprises of 8 theoretical units (ACU118 – ACU818)
and 8 clinical training units. 2 clinical training units can be
completed in the AIHM’s Student Naturopathic clinic and 6 TCM
specific clinical training units (TCMCLI1 -
TCMCLI6) that will be completed in the AIHM’s TCM Student
clinic.
There is a minimum of 400 hours of clinical training to be
completed before graduation and some hours may be completed
externally, subject to application to and approval from the
Board of the AIHM.
Candidates are able to attend the Naturopathic Clinic to observe
basic Acupuncture consultations following completion of their
first academic acupuncture unit (ACU118).
They can start to take basic Acupuncture consultations following
completion of their second academic acupuncture unit (ACU218) to
a maximum of 100 clinical hours (2 clinical training terms).
Once candidates have completed their third academic acupuncture
unit (ACU318) they are able to attend the AIHM’s dedicated TCM
Acupuncture clinic and commence their TCM Acupuncture training.
Supervised clinical training can also be arranged at the Open
